THE PUZZLE HOUSE was established by Roy and Sue Preston in 1988 to create quiz and puzzle material for the book, magazine and entertainment industries. Since then we have written and compiled over 250 puzzle, crossword, quiz and activity books, and carried out puzzle commissions from top-selling magazines each and every week.
We remain a small independent business, and can still guarantee individual attention whether you want a single puzzle for a one-off project or a series of specialist books. We can accommodate most time scales and budgets, and we would be pleased to discuss your own particular requirements.
For further information contact Roy or Sue Preston by phone or email - details on the Contact section.
On January 1st there was a special quiz broadcast from The Bull to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the iconic BBC Radio 4 series THE ARCHERS. The Puzzle House had compiled all the quiz material for THE ARCHERS QUIZBOOK (see below), and we were delighted to be asked to set the questions for this landmark radio event. Pints of Shires all round!
We are working on an exciting new puzzle book for a very well-known brand. Not allowed to say any more at the moment, but the publishing date is set for October this year.
Seven Dials, part of The Orion Publishing Group, combined forces with the National Railway Museum to produce THE BIG BRITISH RAILWAY PUZZLE BOOK. The Museum wrote the factual narrative, and we had the enjoyable challenge of setting a wide variety of puzzles to tie in with the ride through time!
The Tower of London is one of the world’s most famous landmarks. Bestselling author Sinclair McKay charted the rich history of this building that has been a fortress, a palace and a prison. We spent time in the dungeons, on the battlements and with the beefeaters and ravens to originate a collection of individual puzzle challenges that mirrored the amazing story. THE TOWER OF LONDON PUZZLE BOOK was published by Headline Publishing Group in October 2020.
Weidenfeld & Nicolson is such a respected name in publishing, and it was a real honour to get the chance to work with them. THE ARCHERS QUIZBOOK appeared in November, ready to celebrate the seventieth birthday of the ever-popular Radio 4 series. We immersed ourselves in the history, sights, sounds and smells of Ambridge as we went on a quiz quest around Britain’s most loved village.
